Question Time at Shebbear

Shebbear Community School pupils enjoyed their own version of ‘Question Time’ when they welcomed Devon County Councillor, Barry Parsons. Following a tour of the school, Cllr Parsons answered a variety of questions from pupils including members of the school council. He was asked about how he first became interested in politics and his work as a councillor. The children learnt that he is motivated by helping the community and that one of his favourite parts of the job is visiting schools and encouraging young people to achieve well. He was asked about his views on Brexit and which other politicians he has admired over the years. A topical question focussed on what he would talk to Donald Trump about, had he dropped by during his recent state visit.

Cllr Parsons was impressed by the quality of questioning and the interest shown by the children. He was also pleased that the school were promoting opportunities such as these which help fulfill the requirements of teaching fundamental British Values.
