Teddy Class

Teddy Class currently comprises Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 and are taught by Miss Chauhan, Mrs Fuller and Mrs Wood.  Every morning the class is divided into two groups:  Reception and Years 1 and 2.

In addition to the large classroom, there is a covered area and a newly enlarged enclosed outside area which give a wide range of places to play and learn. The children enjoy a tremendous variety of child initiated, adult initiated and adult led activities. Resources and routines are used to ensure that children are given ample opportunity to lead their own learning. This is particularly important to support the move from the Early Years Framework to the National Curriculum. Throughout Teddy class, there is an emphasis on developing good basic skills which will serve them well as they move through the school. At the core of this are daily phonics sessions to ensure the children develop good early reading skills. This is further supported by daily story sessions and the opportunity for a wide variety of reading both supported and independent. As the children move into Year 2, there is a greater emphasis on using their phonics knowledge to develop good spelling skills. The children also have daily numeracy lessons to support them in becoming fluent with numbers and able to tackle to increasingly more challenging curriculum.

Despite being our youngest pupils, Teddy Class children are fully included in whole school events such as assemblies, visitors and trips. They will also be seen regularly exploring the local area and enjoying all that our community has to offer.

Our aim is to make the children’s formative years a really positive experience and an opportunity to develop good skills, gain confidence, make friends and enjoy being at school each day.
