Shebbear Community School is situated in a very rural location. At times, you could be led to believe that it enjoys its own micro-climate! There have been occasions when the school has had to close due to bad weather. This normally means snow or a severe level of ice. As many of the staff live some distance from the school, they may not always be able to get to Shebbear safely. Likewise, we would never want to put children in danger by travelling in dangerous conditions. However, we will always endeavour to open the school as long as we can ensure the safety of all those on site. We keep parents and carers informed of possible closures through our school texting service, this website, local radio (BBC Radio Devon) and the Devon County County school closure website https://new.devon.gov.uk/schools/closure/
As a result of Covid-19, the school has put in places appropriate platforms for home learning (Google Classroom or Class Dojo for the younger children). It means that pupils will not have to miss any learning time for school closures of any type. The school will advise at the time about the work which will need to be completed via these platforms.
