Koala Class comprises Years 5 and 6 and are taught by Mrs Gough and Mr Alford. Teaching assistants Mrs Rayer, Miss Derwin and Miss Curtis support the children with their learning at various points throughout the week.
The curriculum is organised into a two year cycle which allows for all Year 5 and 6 objectives to be covered in this period. The level of expectation increases as the children prepare both for their Year 6 SATs tests and moving onto secondary school.
As children move into Koala, they take a greater level of responsibility around the school and act as mature role models for the younger children. Both around the school, and whilst on school outings, they will often help the younger children stay safe and well. We are frequently proud of how well our children represent us at sporting and other events with their good behaviour, kind nature and positive attitude to learning.
We aim to take the Koala children on a residential trip biennially to London, so they can experience the history and diversity of our capital city. At Christmas, Koala take on the main parts in our much-loved plays, and we find this really helps develop their focus and confidence.
