Design and Technology Vision Statement
We believe in ‘process over product’ and that all learners, including the most disadvantaged, develop independent, creative and critical thinking within this process.
The key purpose of Design and Technology at Shebbear Community School is to:
- Equip children with the key skills needed to become successful global citizens and live independent, healthy lives
- Encourage curiosity, creativity and resilience as part of our ‘iterative’ approach
- Build skills, knowledge and behaviours to give children a secure foundation in the subject
By the end of year six we want all children to be able to:
- Sew using at least one type of stitch
- Cook a savoury meal from scratch
- Prepare food safely using a range of techniques such as peeling, chopping, slicing, grating, mixing, spreading, kneading and baking
- Understand the environmental impact of products including food items
- Have a secure understanding of the problem solving and iterative process.
Our Design and Technology Curriculum builds skills, knowledge and behaviours to give children a secure foundation in the subject.
