Our Curriculum

Curriculum Intent

Our Vision

To build a kind and respectful community of resilient, curious and creative learners who become global citizens, equipped with the skills and values to shape a better future.

Our vision sits at the heart of everything we do and underpins the design, delivery and continual development of our curriculum. We strive to create a nurturing and ambitious learning environment where every child is valued, challenged and supported to achieve their full potential.

Intent

At the heart of our curriculum is a commitment to ensuring that every pupil is well prepared for the next stage of their education and for life beyond school. We believe that all children deserve access to a high-quality, ambitious and inclusive curriculum that equips them with the knowledge, skills and personal qualities needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Our curriculum is designed to develop resilient, curious and creative learners who are eager to explore new ideas, embrace challenges and take ownership of their learning. Through carefully sequenced learning, pupils build a strong body of knowledge and acquire the skills needed to apply their understanding confidently across different contexts.

We place a strong emphasis on the development of core skills in reading, writing, communication and mathematics, recognising that these provide the foundations for lifelong learning and future success. Alongside this, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum that reflects the full breadth of the National Curriculum, ensuring that pupils develop a deep understanding of the humanities, sciences, arts, technology and physical education.

In line with our vision, we aim to foster a kind and respectful community where pupils learn to value diversity, demonstrate empathy and contribute positively to society. Through meaningful learning experiences and enrichment opportunities, pupils develop an understanding of their role as local, national and global citizens.

We are committed to ensuring that our curriculum is ambitious for all learners, including disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND. By drawing upon educational research, ongoing professional development and effective teaching practices, we continually refine our curriculum to ensure it meets the needs of our children and enables them to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Through our curriculum, pupils develop the cultural capital, confidence and aspirations needed to succeed in the next stage of their education and beyond. We want every child to leave our school with the knowledge, skills and values to make informed choices, build positive relationships and shape a better future for themselves and others.

Our Curriculum Aims

Through our curriculum, we aim to:

  • Develop resilient learners who persevere when faced with challenge and take pride in their achievements.
  • Nurture curiosity and creativity through engaging, knowledge-rich learning experiences.
  • Secure excellence in reading, writing and mathematics as the foundation for future success.
  • Provide a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum that enables all pupils to achieve highly.
  • Equip children with the knowledge and skills needed for the next stage of their education and future employment.
  • Foster kindness, respect and positive relationships within our school community and beyond.
  • Promote high aspirations and a belief that every child can succeed.
  • Develop children’s understanding of their responsibilities as global citizens.
  • Enhance cultural capital through a wide range of experiences, opportunities and enrichment activities.
  • Support pupils to become confident, independent and reflective learners who contribute positively to society.

By the time pupils leave our school, they will be knowledgeable, articulate and compassionate individuals who embody our values and are fully prepared to flourish in secondary education and as active citizens in modern Britain and the wider world.
